Resurrection Accounts

I’d like to make available to you here some of the Resurrection Accounts found in the Scriptures. You might like to do some reading about them on your own. In any case, it’s pretty cool to see them laid out together.

Matthew 28:1-10

The women encounter the angel who announces Jesus's resurrection.

Mark 16:1-8

The women find the tomb empty and encounter a young man who announces that Jesus has risen.

Luke 24:1-12

The women find the stone rolled away from the tomb and encounter angels who declare that Jesus is alive.

John 20:1-10

Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb and finds the stone rolled away. She runs to tell Peter and John, who then run to the tomb.

John 20:11-18

Mary remains at the tomb weeping. She sees Jesus, thinking it is the gardener. Jesus calls her by name, “Mary.” She recognizes him. She then goes to the disciples and tells them that she has seen the Risen Lord.

Luke 24:13-35

Jesus appears to two disciples, one named Cleopas, on the road to Emmaus, where Jesus walks alongside of them and opening up the Scriptures, before revealing Himself to them in the breaking of bread.

Luke 24:36-49

Jesus appears to the Apostles, showing them his hands and feet, and eating with them, proving he is not a ghost.

John 20:19-29

Jesus appears to the disciples, including Thomas, who initially doubted but then believes when he sees Jesus' wounds.

John 21:1-14

Jesus appears to the disciples by the Sea of Galilee through a miraculous catch of fish. John cries out, “It is the Lord!” Peter jumps in and swims to Jesus who was cooking fish on the seashore, and who says to him, “Come, have breakfast.”
