Camp Adore
I know that Mother Teresa famously said that God wasn’t calling her to be successful, but to be faithful. But it is nice to know that sometimes God gives us the grace to be successful too! This past week, our annual parish summer camp was a great success!
Many of you will know Heather Kid and her husband, Mike. Their vision of what a Catholic summer camp can be is the reason for Camp Adore. They know what it takes to raise children in the Faith; they themselves have four.
Heather, in a tireless way, gives herself to the organization and execution of Camp Adore. It is amazing to see! But she doesn’t do it alone. Every year, she benefits from the help of so many wonderful parishioners!
Heather is from a family that founded a larger regional Catholic summer camp for teens in 2008, called Camp Veritas. She has played a large role in its success, and brings her years of experience with that program to her planning of our Camp Adore.
And that’s the message we hold out to the children: that God is calling each of us to make a contribution to the building up of the Kingdom of God on earth - one that only we can make. Of course, only in prayer do we learn this, and so we sing with them; we pray with them; we adore the Lord with them. And they come alive! It is a wonderful thing to see.
I would like to thank Heather and all of the volunteers for their presence this week. I know it hasn’t been easy. But I also know that they all love the experience themselves, and that they would all agree that helping the children to adore the Lord with their hearts open to His will for their lives makes the sacrifice worth it. +
