WHAT IS IT?
This coordinated
aims to end abortion
with prayer and fasting,
and a peaceful all-day vigil
in front of abortion businesses.
It takes place during the
40 days of Lent.
HOW DO PEOPLE PARTICIPATE?
The visible
centerpiece of
40 Days for Life is a
round-the-clock prayer vigil
outside a single Planned Parenthood.
It is a peaceful and educational presence.
Those who are called to stand witness
during this 24-hour-a-day presence
send a powerful message
to the community.
It also serves to call to repentance
those who work at the abortion center
and those who patronize the facility.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
We have an abortion center
in our own backyard.
Planned Parenthood, Smithtown
is located right here at
70 Maple Avenue.
CHRIST THE KING
is committed to holding
a prayerful presence at that facility
on ALL 6 THURSDAYS of Lent
from 7AM to 7PM.
Each of us can commit to 1 hour
on at least 1 of the 6 Thursdays
during the season of Lent.
This is our responsibility.
This is our opportunity.
It is not easy. It will feel a lot
like what Our Lady and Saint John
felt standing under the cross.
They stood by Christ in his agony.
We stand with the mothers and their
unborn children in theirs.
Some of our company will hide
in the upper room out of fear, but
we will not condemn them.
Nor will we fear the rejection
of this world, which has lost its way.
Rather, instructed by their example,
we will imitate Our Lady and Saint John,
returning no insult to those
who may mock us.
We will stand and pray in communion
with them, keeping vigil with them.
We will watch for one hour.

WHAT IF I AN UNABLE?
Remember:
To pray is the least
and the most any of us can do.
If you are unable to stand vigil,
please offer some prayers and sacrifices
on the Thursdays of Lent for those
who are standing outside of
the abortion clinic.
If you unite your prayers with
their witness, you will be like those
holy religious monks and nuns
whose prayers are holding
up the Church!
